The Garra Rufa fish are known as “DR FISH” for their therapeutic properties and belong to the carp family. A freshwater fish native to Middle East river basins the Garra Rufa fish are recognized for their numerous healing benefits and effectiveness in exfoliating, cleansing and softening of the skin. Garra Rufa fish were originally found in the pools of a hot spring in the small town of Kangal in Turkey. The springs were first noticed by locals in the early 1800s and the pools built in 1900. These were opened to the public in 1963 and people have flocked there for alternative treatments for skin complaints such as Psoriasis, Eczema, Poor Circulation, Hard-Dry Skin and Acne.
ABOUT THE HYGIENE...
Is there any shared water in the Garra Rufa fish spa?
No – each tank is an individual foot spa, so no water is shared with other clients. Each fish spa has its own filter for hygiene and maintenance reasons.
Is there any risk of infection?
No. There have been no known cases of infection through Garra Rufa fish spa treatments. The water is constantly circulated and sterilised by the UV sterilizer. You would not be able to use the fish spa if you have any of the following:- Verucca, athletes foot, fungal nail infection, open wounds or blisters. There is a lot of hype regarding the treatments around the world and certain groups feel that the treatments are not hygienic. This is as a result of ignorance. The fish cannot transmit diseases to humans. The water that the treatments are provided in is constantly purified and sterilised so there is no chance for diseases to be transmitted through the water.
We will sanitise your feet before the treatment and you have your own individual fish spa. We employ a state of the art filtration system to ensure utmost safety for our customers and our staff. The water is sterilized every 4 minutes, ensuring the utmost hygiene. In addition the water in the tanks is replenished every evening.
What do the Garra Rufa fish eat?
Do they only have a diet of dead skin? No, the fish also have to be fed supplementary food to ensure they are healthy and thrive in these conditions.
Can I have the treatment if I have a verucca or fungal nail infection?
Unfortunately not, both these conditions are contagious and would breach health and safety guidelines. You will also need to wait 24 hours after applying fake tan to use the fish spa.
How quick can another person use the Fish Spa?
The water in the tank should have one completed cycle of water through the filter which takes about 4 mins.
